WAIT! Don't start these seeds indoors yet!

You may wonder which varieties are best suited for directly sowing into your garden outdoors, and which ones do best when started early inside and then later transplanted outside.
The rule of thumb is that any variety that is "cold-hardy" or "root-crop", can do well when planted directly into the soil outside (AKA Direct Sow).   The "tender" or "heat-loving" crops do best when you start them indoors!
Cold-hardy crops do best when direct sown as they are more prone to root damage if transplanted which is why it is best to start them directly in the place where they will live out their entire plant life.
Heat-loving crops will all do best when you start them indoors and then transplant them outside when temperatures are warm enough and the soil can be worked.
The best part about starting seeds indoors is you are able to get a jump start on the gardening season by starting your seeds several weeks before the last average frost date in your area.
