If you live in a small apartment or condo and are looking for a way to participate in your community, why not become a part of a local community garden? Community gardens are shared plots of land where members of the community grow vegetables, fruits and flowers.

There are many great reasons to participate in a community garden.  Its a wonderful activity and a great way to make new friends and become involved in your community. It also will enrich your neighborhoods by adding beauty to an urban area.  It also demonstrates that the citizens of your community take pride in their surroundings.

If your community garden allows you to take home the things you grow...it can also allow you to have a steady source of fresh, healthy vegetables and fruits.  This can be very important for low income, urban families who might not otherwise have access to fresh foods.

Community gardening is also a great source of exercise and socializing!
