    Seeds of Deception

Seeds of Deception: Exposing Industry and Government Lies About the Safety of the Genetically Engineered Foods You're Eating [Paperback] Product Description Without knowing it, Americans eat genetically modified (GM) food everyday. While the food and chemical industries claim that GMO food is safe, a considerable amount of evidence shows otherwise. In Seeds of Deception, Jeffrey Smith, a former executive with the leading independent laboratory testing for GM presence in foods, documents these serious health dangers and explains how corporate influence and government collusion have been used to cover them up.The stories Smith presents read like a mystery novel. Scientists are offered bribes or threatened; evidence is stolen; data withheld or distorted. Government scientists who complain are stripped of responsibilities or fired. The FDA even withheld information from congress after a GM food supplement killed nearly a hundred people and permanently disabled thousands. While Smith was employed by the laboratory he was not allowed to speak on the health dangers or the cover-up. No longer bound by this agreement, Smith now reveals what he knows in this groundbreaking exposé.Today, food companies sell GM foods that have not undergone safety studies. FDA scientists opposed this, but White House and industry pressure prevailed and the agency's final policy--co-authored by a former Monsanto attorney--denied the risks. The scientists' concerns were made public only after a lawsuit forced the agency to turn over internal documents.Dan Glickman, former Secretary of Agriculture, describes the government's pro-biotech mindset: "You felt like you were almost an alien, disloyal, by trying to present an open-minded view. . . . So I pretty much spouted the rhetoric. . . . It was written into my speeches."In Seeds of Deception Smith offers easy-to-understand descriptions of genetic engineering and explains why it can result in serious health problems. This well-documented, pivotal work will show you how to protect yourself and your family. Paperback: 304 pages Language: English

    Tomato - Oxheart, Yellow [INDETERMINATE]

Yellow Oxheart Tomato  (100% Heirloom/Non-Hybrid/Non-GMO) A beautiful tomato plant that produces medium-large yellowish orange tomatoes in the shape of a heart.  - Very meaty and full of flavor. - Very popular amongst gourmet chefs for their use in salads and sandwiches. - Indeterminate. - Easy to grow. Day to Maturity | 90 days   12-Month Planting Calendar     Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sept Oct Nov Dec Plant it (Sow)   ☉ ☉ ☉ ☉ ☉             Eat it (Harvest)           ☉ ☉ ☉ ☉ ☉     How to Grow Tomatoes from Seed #1. Tomatoes are very easy to grow from seed. You should start you seeds indoors using seed starting pellets. Keep the soil warm and dark until the seedlings appear. Put them on top of your refrigerator to keep them warm. It's important to note that light/sun isn't crucial until the seedlings have popped out of the soil. They usually poke their heads out of the soil in about 7-10 days. #2. As soon as the tomato sprouts appear, move the plants to a brighter yet cooler location. This is where they'll need the light to continue growing nicely. The best time to grow tomato seedlings is at about 70ºF during the day and no lower than 40ºF at night. This promotes strong root development. #3. As your tomatoes continue to grow (4" tall), transplant them to larger pots. Bury them a bit lower into the soil than you would most other vegetables. #4. About 2-weeks before you plan to transplant them into the garden, you should begin 'hardening' the plants a.k.a. getting them used to living outside and away from adult supervision.  Move the pots outside in the shade during the day and then bring them back inside at night. This is the easiest way to get them to thrive and adapt to their current growing conditions. This is a VERY IMPORTANT step. You should always 'harden' tomato plants before transplanting them into the garden. This even needs to be done with Tomato plants you would have payed for at a local nursery.   Follow SeedsNow.com's board Tomatoes on Pinterest.

Long Way on a Little: An Earth Lover's Companion for Enjoying Meat, Pinching Pennies and Living Deliciously [Paperback] by Shannon Hayes (Author) Product Description   "Every earth-conscious home cook who wishes to nourish his or her family with sustainable, local, grassfed and pastured meats should be able to do so, regardless of income," argues Shannon Hayes, "we just have to change how we're eating." In her largest, most comprehensive volume to-date, North America's leading authority on grassfed meat examines the conundrum of maintaining a healthy, affordable and ecologically sound meat-based diet, while simultaneously paying America's small sustainable farmers a fair price for their food. "But to do it," she adds, "we need to expand our menus to include more than just the prime cuts, and we need to learn how to work with leftovers." More than just a cookbook, Long Way on a Little presents Hayes' practical knowledge about integrating livestock into a sustainable society with her accessible writing and engaging wit. Designed to be the only meat book a home cook could ever need, Long Way on a Little is packed with Hayes' signature delicious no-fail recipes for perfect roasts and steaks cooked indoors and out on the grill, easy-to-follow techniques to make use of the less-conventional, inexpensive cuts that often go to waste, tips on stretching a sustainable food budget, and an extensive section on using leftovers and creating soups; all with the aim of helping home cooks make the most effective and economical use of their local farm products or their own backyard livestock. While addressing the topic of making local food more affordable, Hayes also frankly grapples with tough health issues confronting so many Americans today, from diabetes to grain and gluten intolerance. The result is a family-pleasing, nutrient-dense, affordable cuisine that is a joy to prepare, rich in authentic flavor, and steeped in the wisdom of the world's greatest culinary traditions, all bundled together in a thought-provoking and informative book that is as stimulating to the mind as it is to the palate.
